The EF-5 tornado that hit Joplin on May 22 damaged 30 percent of our community. More than 3,400 of our 7,700 students were in the direct path of the storm. The tornado also destroyed three schools, rendered another unrepairable and did significant damage to three more. The cost? A staggering $150 million.

Joplin Schools Superintendant Dr. C. J. Huff knew the rebuilding task was daunting. Yet the decision to delay the start of school was never considered. “We need you now more than ever,” Huff said. “It may seem chaotic … but we will have school.”

Generating funds to provide for our students is our most pressing need. Our top priority is ensuring that Joplin’s schools are operational on August 17, and now, more than ever, we need your financial support. The money Bright Futures raises will replace many items that insurance won’t cover and will help provide a warm, welcoming environment for the children of Joplin who lost so much.
